What Are You Doing Up There, Mr. Heron? August 12, 2010

In Louisa County it’s common to see a Great Blue Heron standing in the shallows of a lake or river. We occasionally see them flying overhead. The other day, I saw one trying to balance on a power line west of town. It’s a funny thing about wires: the heavier the bird (or man) the more they sway. And this poor fellow was wobbling dreadfully.

We slowed down for a better look, but he gave up and resumed his flight southeast toward the river.
