Waiting for the Ice to Open January 22, 2010

A few sunny days followed by freezing rain and fog have softened up the ice on the Iowa. As you can see from the picture above, there’s not much open water north of the bridge, but it’s beginning to look promising.

The good news is that there is a large open area south of the bridge.

Yesterday, I caught sight of a bald eagle flying over this pool. Just a few more days of melting should have them back to their usual spots on the north bend.
