Benefit for Max Hammond Saturday January 18, 2010

You’ve seen some of Max Hammond’s pictures in Wapello Warbler’s Louisa County. Max is the one who gave me the picture of bald eagles in a tree here in town. He also provided pictures of a bald eagle over the 99 bridge, an Osprey at Lake Odessa, and the pictures in this post.

Max also helped me verify that the small critters I saw cavorting on the river bank were fox cubs.

Now Max needs our help. He has a vicious metastatic melanoma (cancer). He got some relief from a previous surgery, but the cancer has come back with a vengeance. The only treatment left is experimental and is more likely to leave him dead than cured. His odds are about the same as drawing to an inside straight.

There will be a benefit for Max this coming Saturday at Whitey’s Bar and Billiards from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The benefit will feature an auction and raffle and an all-you can-eat barbecue dinner for $6. Musical entertainment will be provided by Kross Kountry, RC Karaoke and Cool Change. in Burlington.

You can read more about Max’s situation and how his Christian faith sustains him in an article in today’s Burlington Hawk Eye. Click here to read it online.

Come help Max out. Please.
