Professional theatre is great–if you like to watch.  But what if the acting bug bit you in high school and you still itch to be on stage?   You won’t find many opportunities in the city, but in smaller towns like Wapello, community theatres can give you the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

This weekend, Wapello’s own Keck Players will be performing a short comedy entitled “You Can’t Be to Careful.”  Some of the players are old hands who have appeared in numerous productions and some are making their stage debut.  Everyone should have a good time, especially the audience.

Of course, you don’t just move into town and nail a starring role, but if you show up and help out, you’ll eventually get a chance to show what you can do. And you don’t have to be too nervous.  Small town audiences don’t expect Meryl Streep or Brad Pitt and they don’t dare you to impress them.  They just come expecting their friends to share a good story or some favorite songs with them.

This week’s story will be about a bridge group whose lives get hilariously like their favorite soap opera, “World of Shadows,” when some strange men appear.  Performances will be at the Louisa Stage  at 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and at 2:00 pm on Sunday.   To find the stage, drive through town on US 61 until you see the sign. (Simple, isn’t it?)

I hope to see you there.
