Elevator 2

At last! A week without rain. The farmers have been running all day and into the night getting the crops out of the fields.

At the center of all the action stand the elevators. This one is Wapello’s.

The moisture content of the corn is still too high for safe storage so the dryers at the elevator are running continuously. When we step outside we hear them humming, sounding very much like giant hair dryers.

Up until this week most of the fields had been too wet to get the crops out. A day here and a day there enabled some of the small operators on high ground to get their beans harvested, but most of the crops just sat as we waited for a long spell of sunshine and dry weather. We’ve had a week of it and have another day or two before there is any significant chance of rain.

Keep those combines rolling, fellas. God grant you a safe and joyful harvest!
